r
i NEW UST EXCAVATION SAMPLING
Six soil samples, NT-1-10 0, NT-1-15 0, NT-2-10 0, NT-2-15 0, NT-3-10 0, AND
NT-4-10 0; were collected from the corners of the new UST excavation on April
16, 1996 Soil sample depths were approximately 10 and 15 feet bgs Soil
sample locations were designated by Harlin Knoll with the intent of determining
whether soil from this excavation could be reused on--site Final excavation
dimensions were approximately 40 feet long by 28 feet wide and 15 feet deep
The new UST excavation extent and soil sample locations are shown on Figure
4 and soil sample analytical data are, summarized in Table C
Upon receipt of soil sample chemical analytical data, soil from the new UST
excavation was approved by Harlin Knoll, for reuse on-site A total of
approximately 900 cy of soil was removed from the new UST excavation
Approximately 600 cy of new UST soil was used to backfill the former UST
excavation and piping trenches Approximately 100 cy of soil was used to raise
grade across the site The remaining soil was transported by Allwaste
Transportation and Remediation, Inc (Allwaste) to Browning-Ferris Industries'
(BFI) Vasco Road Landfill located in Livermore, California
. STOCKPILE SAMPLING AND DISPOSAL
Soil stockpiles SPA(A-D) through SP-5(A-D) represent approximately 450 cy of
soil generated from UST and piping removal Four soil samples were collected
and combined for approximately every 100 cy of stockpiled material Upon
receipt of chemical analytical data, composites SPA(A-D) through SP-4(A-D)
were used as backfill material as described above The 50 cy represented by
soil stockpile SP-5(A-D) was transported by Allwaste to BFIs Vasco Road
Landfill located in Livermore, California
Stockpiles UOSP-1(A-D) through UOSP-6(A-D) represent approximately 600 cy
of soil generated from the used-oil tank removal and overexcavation activities
Upon receipt of chemical analytical data, the soil represented by UOSP-1(A-D)
through UOSP-6(A-D) was transported by Allwaste to BFIs Vasco Road Landfill
located in Livermore, California Soil stockpile analytical results are summarized
in Table D and stockpile locations are shown on Figure 5
SAMPLING PROTOCOL
Verification soil samples were collected from the excavation sidewalls and/or
bottoms at various depths or where hydrocarbon impact was suspected Soil
. samples were collected from the excavator or backhoe bucket by removing the
top few inches of soil and pushing a clean, six-inch-long, two-inch diameter,
9.4783 Page 3
