09)
CONESTOGA-ROVERS
&ASSOCIATES
March 8,2010 -2- Reference No. 060223
with the Central Valley Region requirements for protecting human health and the
environment.
2. Risk Assessment: Same item 1 response above.
3. Soil Vapor Sampling:Permanent soil vapor probes have not been installed. The previous
soil vapor samples were collected with Geoprobe tools,as referenced in Science
Applications International Corporations (SAIC) Site Investigation Report,August 6,2007.
4. Criteria for Soil and Groundwater Samples:The criteria that will be applied for collecting
samples are as follows:
a. Soil sample selection for laboratory analysis: Soil samples from the deep well borings
will be collected continuously using Roto-sonic sampling equipment. Soil samples in
the shallow well borings will be collected at 5-foot intervals using a split spoon sampler
and hollow-stem auger drilling equipment(CRA,October 15, 2009). Soil sample
selection for laboratory analysis will be based on photo-ionization detector (PID)
readings, physical evidence of petroleum hydrocarbons, and significant changes in soil
type. PID readings will be taken every 5 feet in the continuously cored deep well
borings.
b. Groundwater sample selection for laboratory analysis: Based on the elimination of cone
penetration testing(CPT)borings,no grab groundwater samples are now proposed.
Alternatively, monitoring wells will be installed and sampled.
c. Soil sample selection for physical analyses: As referenced in the RA Work Plan, three
soil samples will be collected from the unsaturated overburden for the soil physical
properties analyses. If more than one overburden soil type is encountered,at least three
soil samples will be collected from each different soil type.
5. GeoTracker Site Postings: The State Water Resources Control Board's GeoTracker database
has been updated to include recent document submissions for the site. We will continue to
update the GeoTracker database with future document submissions for the site.
As discussed during the February 23,2010 meeting,we agreed to the following:
1. Elimination of the CPT borings from the Monitoring Well Work Plan due to the
significant number of CPT boring already installed and to limit potential cross
contamination.
Worldwide Engineering, Environmental,Construction,and IT Services
