Box 2463, OSP 4482D
Houston, TX 77252 -
REVIEW OF REPORT AND WORK PLAN, FORMER SHELL CRUDE OIL PIPELINES—
HANSEN ROAD, TRACY, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
Staff of the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (Regional Board)reviewed the
22 April 2005 Status Report(Report) and the 20 May 2005 Additional Subsurface Investigation
Workplan (Work Plan) submitted by Clayton Group Services, Inc. on behalf of Shell Oil Products
Company(Shell) for the former Shell Central Valley Crude Oil Pipeline (Pipeline) near the intersection
of Hansen and Schultes Roads in Tracy(site). The Report summarizes the forensic research of
characteristics from crude oil fields near the site and compares those results to characteristics of the
crude oils that were transported in the Pipeline and of the petroleum hydrocarbons detected at the site.
Shell reviewed published general information, chromatograms, and biomarkers of the different crude
oils. The Work Plan was submitted based on the recommendation in the Report. The Work Plan
proposes two soil borings to further characterize the site soil and groundwater characteristics and to
characterize soil and-groundwater near an abandoned oil well about 2,000 feet southwest of the site.
Regional Board staff concurs with the Work Plan. By 28 September 2005 please submit an
investigation report summarizing the analytical results along with boring logs, laboratory analytical
reports, and a comparison of all the results from the forensic research.
As of 15 June 2005, I will no longer be the case manager for this site.
