Box 2463
Houston, TX 77252
REVIEW OF WORK PLAN FOR ADDITIONAL DELINEATION, FORMER SHELL
CENTRAL VALLEY CRUDE OIL PIPELINES—HANSEN ROAD, TRACY, SAN JOAQUIN
COUNTY
We have reviewed the 29 August 2002 Workplan for Additional Delineation (Work Plan) submitted by
Clayton Group Services on behalf of Shell Oil Products Company(Shell) for the former Shell Central
Valley Crude Oil Pipeline near the intersection of Hansen and Schultes Roads in Tracy. The Work
Plan proposes a total of 13 borings with soil and grab groundwater samples to delineate petroleum
constituents. Shell previously collected samples from six trench locations. The proposed borings will
delineate concentrations observed in Trenches 2, 3, and 4, and proposed analyses include total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline, diesel, and crude oil, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total
xylenes, and selected samples for polyaromatic hydrocarbons.
Regional Board staff concurs with the Work Plan provided that samples near Boring 15 are analyzed
for the polyaromatic hydrocarbons since this boring had detections of these compounds. According to
the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department, the investigation activities are planned for
17 and 1S October. Therefore, by 6 December 2002, please submit an investigation report detailing
the field activities and sampling results, and include recommendations for additional work, if needed.
The report should be prepared in general accordance with the Items To Be Included In A Site
Assessment Report.
