Gaarder, Jeff
From: Brian Taylor[betaylor@waterboards.ca.gov]
Sent: Thursday,April 21, 2011 11:07 AM
To: Gaarder,Jeff
Subject: Former Shell Pipeline Sites
/7_20n
Hi Jeff; P
i
I've reviewed your 5 April response to comments regarding the Site Assessment Work Plan for this Site.
I concur with Shell's proposal to install the wells in lieu of the depth discrete hydropunch samples we
requested.
I think that the lower concentrations observed in monitoring wells (compared to hydropunch samples)
may be attributable to borehole dilution and oxygenation. However, Shell's point that site conditions will
ultimately be evaluated by the well data warrants consideration.
Also it appears that our Comment No. 2 has only been partially reproduced on Page 4 of Shell's
comment letter. Because of this, I have not yet accepted the document in Geotracker. However, I think
it's not a major error. If Shell wants to correct it on Geotracker and replace the hard copy before we
accept it they can do that. Otherwise I'll accept it as is.
Brian Taylor P.G
AGT Program
Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
11020 Sun Center Drive
Rancho Cordova, Ca. 95670
(916) 464-4811
>>> "Gaarder,Jeff' <jgaarder@craworld.com> 3/28/2011 11:59 AM >>>
Wendy:
Per our discussion, this email provides information regarding the 1 0111 sampling events for the former
Shell Pipeline sites located in Mountain House and Tracy.
Today, CRA's sampling contractor, Blaine Tech, reported that due to recent rains, it is not possible to
safely sample either site. The wells at both sites are located in fields which have been flooded or
ground conditions are too wet to allow sampling vehicles safe access to the wells. Additionally, because
there is a barley crop growing at the Tracy site, sampling vehicles can not access the wells without
damaging the crop. Also as discussed, there are no orders for either site requiring sampling. Therefore,
the sampling events will not be performed until safe vehicle access is permitted and standard sampling
protocol can be performed. CRA will notify you of the new sampling dates once they are scheduled.
Thank you for your consideration of this matter.
Regards,
Jeff Gaarder, MS
Conestoga-Rovers &Associates (CRA)
19449 Riverside Drive, Suite 230
Sonoma, CA 95476
Phone: 707.933.2362
Fax: 707.935.6649
5/16/2011
