Shell SITE INVESTIGATION WORK PLAN
All other areas along the former pipeline alignment are adequately delineated by soil analytical data
from adjacent soil borings or groundwater monitoring data from adjacent monitoring wells. The
following sections discuss the work tasks associated with implementing this site investigation.
2.1 Access
CRA has an existing access agreement with the property owner(Prologis)for installing the proposed soil
borings in the vicinity of well MW-15. As noted in our February, 25, 2014 correspondence,CRA
attempted to obtain an access agreement for the property at 24322 Hansen Road for installing soil
borings, but was denied by the property owner, Mr. Peter Vierra, Sr. CRA obtained an access agreement
from the property owner, Mr. Mark Gouvaia, for 24380 Hansen Road to install the proposed
groundwater monitoring well on his property.
2.2 Permits
CRA will obtain drilling permits for soil boring installation from the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department.
2.3 Health and Safety Plan
CRA will prepare a HASP to protect site workers. The HASP will be kept on site during field activities and
will be reviewed and signed by each site worker.
2.4 Utility Clearance
CRA will mark and survey the proposed drilling locations, and the locations will be cleared through
Underground Service Alert and a private line locator service prior to drilling.
2.5 Soil Borings and Monitoring Well Construction
The exploratory soil borings, including the monitoring well will be drilled using direct push or hollow-
stem auger drilling equipment. A CRA geologist will supervise the drilling and describe encountered soils
using the Unified Soil Classification System and Munsell Soil Color Charts. Soil samples will be collected
continuously or at 5-foot intervals for soil description and screening in the field for organic vapors using
a flame ionization detector(FID). CRA will prepare boring and well logs, and FID measurements will be
recorded on the logs.
Soil samples designated for chemical analyses will be retained in stainless steel or brass sample tubes.
In the unsaturated zone soils, samples will be collected every 5 feet at a minimum for chemical analyses.
The tubes will be covered on both ends with Teflon sheets and plastic end caps. Soil samples will be
labeled, entered onto a chain-of-custody record, and placed into a cooler with ice for transport to a
060223(30) 3 CONESTOGA-ROVERS&ASSOCIATES
