Shell Site Investigation Report
Section 3.0 Investigation Results
CRA conducted investigation work in June 2014 at the site to delineate crude oil impacts in the vicinity
of monitoring well MW-15 and soil boring B-109 as detailed in our March 7, 2014 Site Investigation
Work Plan. The following section summarize the completed work.
3.1 Permits
CRA obtained drilling permits for soil boring and well installation from the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department. Copies of the permits are presented in Appendix D.
3.2 Drilling Dates
Soil borings B-117 through B-119 were advanced on June 11, 2014. Monitoring well MW-16 was
constructed on June 12, 2014.
3.3 Drilling Company
Cascade Drilling, LP of West Sacramento, California.
3.4 CRA Personnel
California Professional Geologist Bob Siegfried directed the drilling activities under the supervision of
Project Manager and California Professional Engineer Dan Lescure.
3.5 Drilling Method
The soil borings were advanced using hollow stem augers.
3.6 Number of Borings
Four soil borings were advanced (B-117 through B-119 and MW-16). Boring MW-16 was completed as a
monitoring well. The soil boring/well locations are shown on Figure 4. The borings and soil types
encountered are described on the boring logs, presented in Appendix E.
3.7 Boring Depths
All soil borings were advanced to 51.5 fbg. Groundwater in these borings was encountered at
approximately 37 fbg.
3.8 Soil Sampling
Soil samples were collected at approximate 5-foot intervals in the borings, for soil description, screening
in the field for organic vapors using a flame ionization detector(FID), and laboratory analyses.
