Ted Knowles
1140 West Hammer Lane
Stockton, CA 95209
RE: SAMPLING RESULTS
KNOWLES GAS STATION
1140 WEST HAMMER LANE
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
Dear Mr . Knowles :
This letter presents Groundwater Technology, Inc . ' s ( GTI ' s )
findings from an additional round of sampling conducted at the
Knowles Gas Station, 1140 West Hammer Lane , Stockton, California.
In addition to the sampling results are GTI ' s recommendations for
additional work. GTI initiated work at the above referenced site
following written authorization by Mr . Ted Knowles on February 1 ,
1988 . The work steps consisted of purging and sampling the three
existing monitoring we:'.ls and the submission of each sample for
laboratory analysis .
The three existing monitoring wells were purged and sampled on
February 2 , 1988 ( See Figure 1 , Site Plan) . Each well was purged
by hand bailing approximately 3 to 4 well volumes of water using
a clean acrylic bailer . Each well was subsequently sampled with
an EPA approved TeflonTM sampler used to transfer groundwater
into 40 milliliter (ml ) Teflon TM capped vials . The sampler was
cleaned with laboratory grade detergent and rinsed with distilled
water before and after collection of each water sample. The
samples were labeled , placed on ice and transported to
Groundwater Technology Environmental Laboratory in Concord ,
California, accompanied by a Chain-of-Custody manifest . Water
samples from all three wells were submitted for modified EPA
Method 602 analysis ( includes xylene quantification) .
A review of the laboratory analyses indicated benzene
concentrations to be 3- art per billion ( ppb) , 2 ppb and wpb
in monitoring wells 1 , ' 2 , and 3 , respectively ( see Attachment I ,
Laboratory Analyses ) . These values are substantially lower
O(ices throughout the U.S., Canada and Overseas
Western offices in: Tempe, AZ; Concord, CA; Sacramento, CA; San Diego, CA;
Torrance, CA; Ventura, CA; Englewood, CO ; Renton, WA
