-.p Mr. Harlin Knoll
October 12, 1999
A temporary well will be constructed by installing 2-inch diameter PVC piping and well screen into the
boring. The well screen will extend from approximately 5 feet above to 15 feet below the measured
groundwater level in the nearest well (MW5). A clean silica sand will be placed in the well annulus from
the bottom of the well to approximately 2 feet above the screened interval. A temporary seal of hydrated
bentonite, approximately 2 feet thick, will be placed above the sand filter pack. The well will be developed
by pumping and surge/ball techniques until produced water is relatively free of sediments. A groundwater
sample will then be collected from the well and analyzed for TPHG, BTEX, and MTBE. The elevation of
the well casing will be surveyed relative to the existing wells to allow for determining the groundwater
elevation, which will be incorporated into the groundwater gradient calculations.
Subsequent to sampling and surveying the well, the licensed drilling contractor will abandon the well by
removing the casing and sandpack and grouting the boring with neat cement. All solid and liquid waste will
be placed in appropriately labeled and sealed 55-gallon drums pending disposal. All sampling and drilling
equipment will be washed thoroughly with laboratory-grade detergent and water between uses to minimized
the nctAntial ofc:oss contamination.
Ground Zero will schedule the field work upon approval of this workplan by PHS/EHD and the UST
Cleanup Fund. Ground Zero will obtain a drilling permit from PHS/EHD as well as an encroachment
permit, including a traffic management plan, from the City of Stockton prior to initiating any field work.
All field work will be performed in accordance with Ground Zero's Quality Assurance/Quality Control
(QA/QC) Plan and Site Safety Plan on file with PHS/EHD.
Please contact John Lane or Greg Stahl at your convenience if you have any questions or comments
regarding this workplan.
Sincerely, RED GFS
Ground Zero Analysis, Inc. 5 /0
.iOHN
• Lr'ivC.
6795
John P.
