Woodward-Clyde <br /> V <br /> spoon sampler attached to drill rods, was lowered through the center of the augers. The <br /> V <br /> sampling assembly was driven with a hydraulic hammer, with a force equal to a 140-pound <br /> hammer dropping 30-inches. The number of blows to drive the sampling assembly to the <br /> desired depth for each 6-inch interval was recorded in the boring logs. At each sampling <br /> interval, the sampler was opened and the brass liners were removed from the sampler. The <br /> bottom liner was prepared for chemical analysis by covering the ends of the liner with Teflon <br /> sheeting and plastic end caps. The liner was labeled with sample identification, date and <br /> time sampled, placed in a resealable plastic bag, then placed in an ice chest with ice until <br /> the samples could be transported to California Laboratory Services. The middle liner was <br /> used to measure headspace for VOCs and soil classification. The boring logs are provided <br /> V <br /> in Appendix B. The split spoon sampler was decontaminated between each sample drive <br /> with an Alconox detergent wash, double tap water rinse, and double deionized water rinse. <br /> Samples selected for chemical analysis were analyzed for TPH as gasoline and TPH as diesel <br /> using modified EPA Method 8015 and BTEX using EPA Method 8020. <br /> V <br /> Soil boring B-3A was drilled to a depth of 49.5 feet bgs located within the north end of the <br /> former UST excavation (Figure 4). Since the first 18 feet of B-3A was drilled through tank <br /> excavation backfill material and previous boring B-3 was sampled to 43 feet, no samples <br /> were collected from surface to 44 feet bgs. Soil samples were collected at 44.5 and 49.5 <br /> feet bgs. Soil samples selected for chemical analysis were collected from 45.5 to 46 and <br /> 50.5 to 51 feet bgs. No visible contamination, or elevated headspace readings were observed <br /> V <br /> during the advancement of B-3A. Boring B-3/B-3A was backfilled from 50 to 12 feet bgs <br /> with a neat cement plus bentonite grout mixture. The top of the boring is plugged with a <br /> plastic 5-gallon bucket for safety precautions. <br /> The general subsurface geology below the site consists of 1 to 3 feet of light brown firm <br /> clayey silt underlain by 3 to 6 feet of brown stiff sandy clayey silt, that is underlain by 2 to <br /> 5 feet of light yellowish brown clayey silt to clayey silty sand. The light yellowish brown <br /> clayey silt is underlain by 5 to 7 feet of dry brown sandy clay, that is underlain by 15 to 25 <br /> feet of interlayered light olive brown to light brown clayey silty sands, sandy clays, clayey <br /> V <br /> silts, and clayey sandy silts. The interlayered sequence is underlain by 8 to 10 feet of light <br /> brown firm clayey silt, that is underlain by a brown medium dense clayey silty sand with <br /> interlayers of a stiff light brown clayey silt. Groundwater was encountered in soil boring <br /> B-7 at a depth of approximately 76.5 feet bgs.
