Woodward-Clyde
Ms. Linda Turkatte
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division
August 5, 1996
Page 4
Soil samples were collected by WCFS after the excavation activities. The track-mounted
backhoe was used to collect soil samples from thebottomof°the excavation'.below the former
north end of the UST. 'Four soil samples-wer-e collected-and analyzed for TPH as diesel,-and
BTEX. A summary of-analytical results of the four soil samples is presented in Table 1.
Sample locations are shown on Figure 3.
Table 1 - Summary of Analytical Results of Soil Samples Collected April 30,4996-at KJAX
- Radio Station Transmitter, Stockton, California. The backfill
material was stockpiled-adjacent to the excavation. A photoionization detector (PI-D) and Petro-
FLAG hydrocarbon test kit calibrated-for TPH as diesel was used for field screening. The PID
readings were used to assess the potential of volatile hydrocarbons of soil removed from the
excavation. The Petro FLAG screening was used to confirm that soil samples collectedfrom
the bottom of the excavation pit were free. of diesel contamination below the-allowable-limit
L (100 mg/Kg). Once the.-Petro FLAG screening results indicated that soils were below the
allowable limit, no additional soil was excavated.
Ll --
a
