4.0
. QUALITY ASSURANCE OBJECTIVES
The overall quality assurance objective for analytical data is to ensure that data of known and
acceptable quality are obtained. All measurements will be made to yield consistent results
representative of the sampled media. All data will be calculated and reported in units consistent
with the selected methodology to allow comparability of databases.
Five major characteristics of data quality must be addressed in environmental sampling and
analysis°projects. These are:
• Precision-A measure of agreement among individual measurements of the same
property under similar conditions, expressed in terms of relative percent
difference between replicates or the standard deviation of several measurements.
• Accuracy - The degree of agreement of a measurement (or measurement
average) with an accepted reference or true value, usually expressed as a
percentage of the difference of the measured result from the true value.
• Representativeness -Expresses the degree to which data accurately and precisely
represent the sampled medium under specified environmental conditions.
• Completeness- A measure of the amount of valid data obtained compared to the
amount expected to be obtained under normal conditions, usually expressed as
rr a percentage.
• Comparability - Expresses the confidence with which one data set can be
compared to another. To achieve comparability in this project, analyses will be
performed according to the methods and procedures of the designated analytical
LY methods. Standard reference materials will be used to document traceability of
calibration standards.
Ili
8054 cA8054Vcjax.gap $
