rr f <br /> L <br /> - 7.0 <br /> EXCAVATION OPERATIONS REQUIREMENTS <br /> 7.1 PRELIMINARY REQUIREMENTS <br /> Certain government agencies (e.g. California) require a permit to perform .excavation <br /> operations. <br /> II <br /> Before digging, the tank removal subcontractor will determine if underground utilities such <br /> L <br /> as sewer, water, fuel, AM tower radials or electrical lines will be encountered, and if so, <br /> determine the exact locations ofthe lines. Information can be obtained by contacting an <br /> underground utility location service (consult local telephone directory for toll-free numbers), <br /> local:utility companies, and the owner of the property on which excavating operations are . !� <br /> planned. i <br /> Trees, boulders, and other surface encumbrances, located so as to pose a,potential hazard <br /> to employees must be removed or made safe before the operation begins. <br /> 7.2 PLACEMENT OF EXCAVATED MATERIALS <br /> 3 i <br /> Excavated materials will be placed at least two feet back from the edge of the excavation and <br /> ii <br /> precautions will be taken to prevent the materials from falling back into the excavation. <br /> .i <br /> i 7.3 INSPECTION OF EXCAVATIONS <br /> Although personnel will not enter excavations, the excavations will be observed daily by the ;IE <br /> ' <br /> W-C site geologist or engineer rho will communicate their assessment of the stability of the <br /> ; <br /> excavation to the SSO at the start and end of each workday. If evidence for potential cave- <br /> ins or slides is apparent, all work in the vicinity of the excavation will be.suspended until ii <br /> the necessary steps have been taken to stabilize the excavation and to safeguard employees <br /> working in the area. i <br />
