Hammer Lane, Stockton LOP Case 1125 - Waiver of over-drilling
} sensitive well destructions
Mr. Infurna:
Upon closer review of the boring logs and field reconnaissance of the groundwater and remediation wells
approved for destruction by the San Joaquin County EHD, it has become evident to Horizon that over-
drilling of several of these installations within the existing UST basin,''may potentially present a safety risk
of disturbing the integrity of the fuel storage system. Currently, triple completion MW-11VW-112; double
completions VW-314, VW-516, VW-718, single monitoring well MW-5 and sparge well SW-1 are all located
within.the boundaries of the UST and are constructed within either 16 and 18-inch diameter permanent
PVC conductor casings. Any accidental contact of the drilling augers with the walls of the casings during
over-drilling process may result in twisting, slipping, or sliding of the casing which could trigger
subsidence of the pea-gravel backfill and affect stability of the fuel system Destructing the groundwater
: monitoring and remediation wells by internal exploding would also be out of consideration given.the
'F
i
1/23/2012
