HARLAN ROAD, FRENCH CAMP, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
I have reviewed the 23 July 1999 Soil and Groundwater Investigation Work Plan (work plan) submitted by
Metcalf&Eddy, Inc. for Continental Grain's French Camp Elevator facility (site). The work plan proposes
to further characterize carbon tetrachloride and chloroform detected in soil and groundwater beneath the site
by:
1. Advancing six CPT borings to 180 feet below the ground surface. The CPT information will be used to
identify the number and continuity of water-bearing zones beneath the site.
2. Collecting undisturbed soil samples at 5-foot intervals to the water table at six potential source locations.
Between two and four soil samples will be analyzed for volatile organic compounds at each sampling
location.
3. Collecting groundwater samples from various water-bearing zones upgradient from the potential source
area to evaluate the potential for a possible upgradient source of contaminants to the site.
We hereby accept the work plan. Work outlined in the work plan shall be completed and a Soil and
Groundwater report which includes recommendations for further investigation submitted to the Regional
Board by 19 November 1999. Additionally, a work plan for site assessment prepared in general accordance
with the attached outline will be required by 3 December 1999. Since groundwater assessment to this point
has only included reconnaissance (Hydropunch®) sampling, the work plan shall include a proposal for
groundwater monitoring well installation.
If you have any questions regarding this project, you may call me at(916) 255-3077.
J MELLO
Asso fate Engineering Geolo ist
Attachment
cc: Linda Huff, Huff&Huff, LaGrange
Joe Weidmann, Metcalf&Eddy, Santa Barbara
California Environmental Protection Agency
pro Recycled Paper '
