PHS/EHD has the following comments for your
consideration.
The work plan proposed a series of push-point soil borings to investigate the vertical and
horizontal extent of soil contamination and to assess possible impacts to groundwater. One
soil boring, SP1, will be advanced to groundwater which is expected to be encountered at
approximately 30 feet below ground surface (bgs). The proposal indicated that soil samples
would be collected from each soil boring at four foot intervals beginning at 12 feet bgs.
Please note that soil contamination was evidenced at 7 feet bgs; therefore, PHS/EHD
recommends that you begin collecting soil samples at 6 feet bgs to evaluate the horizontal
extent of soil contamination already evidenced. The work plan stated that selected soil
samples would undergo laboratory analysis. Please contact PHS/EHD to discuss the
selection of soil samples which will undergo laboratory analysis, so that sufficient soil
samples will undergo analysis to characterize the extent of soil contamination.
Once PHSIEHD has received the appropriate permit fees, PHSIEHD will issue the drilling
permit, and you may proceed with scheduling the proposed field work. Please contact
PHSIEHD at least two working days prior to initiating field activities, so that PHSIEHD may
schedule site inspections.
If I can answer any questions or to schedule a site inspection, please do not hesitate to
contact me at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Margaret gorio, REHS l
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
MM/1767HAM
cc: Elizabeth Thayer, CVRWCICB cc: Ken Jones, Twinning
A Division of San Joaquin County Hearth Care Services
