Continental Grain for the
performance of a subsurface investigation at the above referenced site. The purpose of the
subsurface investigation is to evaluate the horizontal extent of impacted soil and groundwater in
the vicinity of the Burlington North Santa Fe railroad tracks south and southwest of the site.
This work being done at the direction of San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) in correspondence dated April 23, 1999. The
proposed scope of work includes obtaining permits and access agreements, advancing up to eight
soil borings, soil and groundwater sampling, laboratory analysis of selected soil and groundwater
samples, and preparing a summary report. The scope of work is described in detail in the
following paragraphs.
SITE LOCATION
The site is located on the north side of-Harbor Street and south of the Deep Water Channel in
Stockton, California, as shown on Figuire 1. The location is an industrial area and the site is
currently occupied by Continental Grain.
BACKGROUND
In January 1988, two 12,000-gallon diesel underground storage tank (USTs), one 10,000-gallon
gasoline UST, one 750-gallon UST, and all associated piping were removed from the locations
shown on Figure 2. One soil sample was collected from beneath the 750-gallon UST and one
soil sample was collected from each end of the 12,000-gallon and the 10,000-gallon USTs.
Analytical testing indicated the samples collected from beneath the 10,000-gallon and 750-gallon.
i
+' w:\625001reportslw1cpii.doc 1
i.
