Soil and ground water should be analyzed for ether and alcohol using EPA method 8260
(Specifically, Tertiary Butanol (TB), ,MTBE, Di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), and Tertiary Amyl
Methyl Ether(TAME)).
2. Soil samples must be taken, from the bore holes, at five foot intervals or each time that the
soil lithology changes.
3. If soil samples obtained at 30 feet below grade appear contaminated boring and sampling
should be continued until the vertical extent of the contamination is defined.
4. The investigation proposal that you have submitted is limited such that the lateral and vertical
extent of the contamination may not be determined. Further assessment may be necessary.
Once field activities are completed and prior to submittal of the soil samples to the laboratory,
PHSIEHD must be contacted in order to discuss which soil samples will undergo analysis. The
summary report should include a table of all soil and ground water sample results obtained from
the site and any recommendations for further investigation and/or remediation.
Should you have questions regarding this.correspondence please contact Bruce Askanas at(209)
468-0331.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Bruce Askanas, Sr. REHS Margaret L gorio, Supervising REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Site Mitigation Unit
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
