The results of the soil
and grab water samples collected indicate high level of total petroleum
hydrocarbon (TPH) as gasoline, and TPH as diesel, as well as some aromatic
hydrocarbons (Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl-Benzene, and Xylenes) in the soil and
groundwater, in the vicinity of the former 10,000 gallon underground storage tank
(UST).
The depth to ground water at the site is between 19 and 20 feet below ground
surface (bgs), with historical high depth to groundwater around 10 feet bgs in
1979.
The results of the soil samples taken from the former 750 gallon UST site
indicate minimal contamination at the location. Therefore, PHSIEHD concurs
with Smith Environmental Technologies Corporation's assessment that further
investigation is not warranted. However, further investigation of the 10,000
gallon UST is required. Submit a work plan that includes the installation of
monitoring wells to investigate the vertical and lateral extent of contamination at
this site by April 15, 1998.
Collection of soil samples beneath groundwater will be required to determine the
vertical extent of soil contamination. Although groundwater was not encountered
until 19 to 20 feet bgs, static water level may be at 10 feet or less bgs and this
should be considered when constructing the monitoring wells so that
groundwater level is below the top of the screened interval of the monitoring
wells.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
