The purpose of the <br /> subsurface investigation is to determine the vertical and horizontal extent of soil and groundwater <br /> contamination in the vicinity of the former 10,000-gallon underground storage tank (UST). This <br /> work being done at the direction of San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental <br /> Health Division (PHS/EHD) in correspondence dated February 18, 1998. <br /> The scope of work includes obtaining permits, advancing three soil borings and collecting soil <br /> samples-, installing three groundwater monitoring wells, developing the wells, collecting <br /> groundwater samples, laboratory analysis of selected soil and groundwater samples, and preparing <br /> a summary report. The scope of work is described in detail in the following paragraphs. <br /> I� SITE LOCATION <br /> 1 <br /> The site is located on the north side of Harbor Street and south of the Deep Water Channel in <br /> Stockton, California; as shown on Figure 1. The location is an industrial area and the site is <br /> currently occupied by Continental Grain. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> j In January 1988, two 12,000-gallon diesel USTs, one 10,000-gallon gasoline UST, one 750- <br /> gallon UST, and all associated piping were removed from the'locations shown on.Figure 2. One <br /> soil sample was collected from beneath the 750-gallon UST and one soil sample was collected <br /> from each end of the 12,000-gallon and the 10,000-gallon USTs.
