I C\V V9
A 5 S O C I A T E S I N C .
detected in the groundwater sample collected from soil boring SB 1. The January 1998
subsurface investigation results are detailed in ATC's Summary Report for Subsurface
Investigation, dated February 4, 1998.
In September 1998, ATC supervised the excavation of approximately 70 tons of impacted soil.
The soil was transported and disposed of at an appropriate landfill on the same day it was
excavated. The excavation was limited on two sides by buildings and overhead lines.
Confirmation samples collected from the excavation indicated there was residual contamination
' remaining. Also in September 1998, ATC supervised the advancement of four soil borings
around the former excavation area. Three of the borings were completed as groundwater
monitoring wells. Analytical data indicated the soil and groundwater at the site is impacted with
total petroleum hydrocarbons as stoddard solvents (TPHss). The September 1998 subsurface
investigation results are detailed in ATC's Summary Report of Soil Excavation and Additional
Subsurface Investigation, dated December 3, 1998.
2.0 METHODS AND PROCEDURES
' To investigate the extent of impacted soil and groundwater at the site, one soil boring was
advanced in the vicinity of the former 1,000-gallon UST and one soil boring was advanced
M southwest of the site. All field activities were performed in accordance with ATC's Workplan
for Additional Subsurface Investigation at Inland Paint, 117 West Harding Way, Stockton,
California, dated December 10, 1999. This workplan was approved by PHS/EHD with minor
modifications on March 21, 2000.
2.1 GcoprobcO Drilling Activities
On March 23s 2000 an ATC geologist supervised the advancement of one angle soil boring,
1 SB2A, to approximately 32 feet below ground surface (bgs). A site plan with the soil boring
location is shown on Figure 2. V&W Drilling, California License C57 720904, advanced the
boring using a truck mounted GeoprobeO narrow diameter rig employing direct -push
' technology. The boring was advanced at a thirty degree angle from the vertical, directly under
the on-site building, south of the former UST location. Soil samples were collected from boring
S132A at five-foot intervals in acetate sampling tubes and were described according to the
Unified Soil Classification System. Descriptions of soil types encountered and sample collection
intervals are presented on the boring log contained in Appendix A.
1 222 Soil Sampling and Analysis
Each soil sample was field screened with a Flame Ionization Detector (FID) for the presence of
' volatile organic compounds. Sample tubes were then sealed at each end using Teflon tape and
plastic end caps, labeled, and placed on ice.
w:V 72951reportslsumiii.doc 2
