k'" KLEIN FELDER
1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This is a report of Kleinfelder`s Pre-Abandonment Underground Storage Tank Assessment
conducted at the Gianite Construction Company located at 10500 South Harlan Road in French
Camp, Califoinia Mr Hop Essick ietaumed Klei nfelder to conduct the assessment The
' assessment was conducted based upon Klemfelder's proposal titled "Revised Proposal, Pre-
Abandonment UndergroLInd Stoiage Tank Soil Assessment, (12,000 Gallon SC-250 And 12,000
Gallon SS-1 H) Gr anite Constl uctloin Company, 10500 South Harlan Road, French Camp Road,
California", dated October 30, 1998
Four (4) angle soil borings weie advanced at the Granite Constiuction facility (See Plates I
' through 3) in the vicinity of two non-operating underground storage tanks (USTs) The two
existing 12,000 gallons USTs previously contained "Liquid Asphalt Cutback (a k a SC-250) and
Asphalt Emulsion (aka SS-1H) Each of the 4 soil borings weie advanced at an angle of
' approximately 60" Irom ground surface Two (2) soil borings were advanced at each tank
location in an attempt to collect soil samples beneath the USTs During advancement of the soil
borings groundwater was encountered approxinnately 14 feet below ground surface (bgs) No
unusual odor of discololatioin was noted hom soil or groundwater samples collected from the 4
soil borings Photovac Mic,roTip"' photo-ionization detector (PID) readings of soil samples
collected ranged from 1 1 to 20 parts per million by volume (ppmv) of vapor
Soil samples weie collected at 4 to 7 foot rnteivals beginning at 5 feet from ground surface A
' total of 20 soil samples and 2 groundwater samples were collected from borings BI through B4
The 2 groundwater samples were collected from Borings BI and 133 Additionally, 2 product
standards were collected to be used in a custom fingerprint analyses for reference to product once
' contained in the two existing USTs The soil samples submitted for analyses were collected
between 13'/ to 15 foot auger depth and at 25 foot auger depth A total of 8 soil samples and 2
water samples weie submitted for analyses under chain-of-custody procedures to Sequoia
' Analytical Laboratory of Sacramento California for the following analyses
• Benzene l-oluene Ethylbenzene Total Xylenes [BTEXJ by EPA Method 8020
• Fuel Fingeipiint by EPA Method 8015M
• Custom fuel Fingerprint, identified and quantified against client supplied standard of SC-
250 and SS-1 H by EPA Method 8015M)
Unidentified extractable h drocatbons UH weie detected in one soil sample and both water
y (UEH) p
samples at relatively low concentrations UEH was detected at 2 03 mg/kg (CIO to C,4
' hydrocarbon ian`c) in a soil sample collected In boring B4 at an approximate auger depth of 13'/2
feet The groundwater samples collected from borings BI and B3 had reported UEH
f concentrations of 0 203 nig/l (C,,, to C,4 hydrocarbon range) and 0 407 mg/l (CIO, to C,,
hydrocarbon range), respectively The relatively low UEH concentrations found in the two
• "grab" groundwater samples may have resulted from cross contarnnrnation from the upper soils in
'
20-1108-24 E-01/2019R 120 Page I of 16
© 1999 Kleinlddu Im, Fubnlary 5, 1999
