JUL 26 '93 63:3EPM TRETRLUM (707) 762-3614 is P.7
3.3 Chemical Hazards
To reduce the possibility of injury due to chemical hazards, personal protective equipment shall
be wom. Because chemicals that may be encountered at the facility are expected to be
present at low concentrations, R does not appear that it will be necessary to divide work sites
into exclusion, decontamination, and clean zones. tf necessary, however, a 30-foot exclusion
zone around the work site, delineated with hazard tape and cones, will be enforced. All
personal protection clothing will be removed in an adjacent decontamination zone before
entering the clean zone. No visitors will be allowed to approach the work site unless they are
properly trained in safety procedures and under the supervision of a site hydrogeologist,
3.4 Acoustical Hazards
To prevent hearing impairment, use ear plugs or ear muffs when noise levels prevent
conversation in a normal voice at a distance of 3 feet.
3.5 Biological Hazards
To reduce the risk of biological hazards, personal protective clothing will be used. Personal
protective equipment will be removed and hands washed prior to consumption of food.
beverage, and tobacco products. Smoking will not be allowed within 30 feet of the work area.
Prior to leaving the site, personnel shall remove disposable personal protective equipment,
place it in a sealed plastic bag, and dispose of k appropriately.
3.6 Temperature Hazards
Procedures to reduce the possibility of health or safety risks caused by extreme temperatures
shall be used, as follows:
I. When the air temperature exceeds 70 degrees F, take frequent breaks
in a shaded area. Unzip or remove coveralls during breaks. Have water or electrolyte-
replenishing solution available, drink small amounts frequently to avoid dehydration. If
pulse is over 110 beats per minute at the beginning of break, reduce the length of work
periods and increase the frequency of breaks. Employees that have not determined
their normal pulse range will do so before entering the field. This will be done on an
individual basis or during yearly stress testing required during physical examinations.
Individuals are responsible for monitoring their own pulse rate during field work.
2.
