URS
Mr.Johnny Yoakum
San Joaquin Environmental Health Department
July 24,2012
Page 2
SCOPE OF WORK
URS will oversee Gregg Drilling of Martinez,California decommission one groundwater monitoring well
(C-1)at the San Lorenzo Lumber property. Because low levels of VOCs have been detected in this well,
the SJCEHD requires the well to be overdrilled. A 16-inch conductor casing installed to a depth of 85
feet bgs will prevent overdrilling to occur in a feasible, logical way. Recognizing that overdrilling the
conductor casing is not an option, the county will allow overdrilling of the well casing to occur within the
conductor casing using a mud rotary drill rig. The conductor casing will be removed to approximately 5
feet bgs. Once the well is overdrilled, the boring will be backfilled with cement grout using a tremie pipe
to approximately 3 feet bgs. The surface will be backfilled with native soil to approximately 3 feet bgs.
PERMITTING
The SMCEHSD requires an approved work plan and a permit for the well decommissioning. Following
the receipt of a workplan approval letter from the agency, URS will conduct field activities according to
the scope of work presented in this work plan.
PROJECT HEALTH AND SAFETY
A site-specific health and safety plan(HASP)will be prepared and available on site during field activities.
The plan will be reviewed by URS Feld personnel and subcontractor staffs before the start of field
activities.
WASTE DISPOSAL
Soil cuttings and wastewater generated during the drilling activities will be placed in 55-gallon steel
drums pending disposal.Following receipt of analytical results, the waste drums will be transported to an
approved facility for disposal.
