The following comments are meant to address both
'i
of these documents and the current status of the site .
a
1 ) The three Quarterly Reports submitted thus far have
established the groundwater flow beneath this site to
be slightly south of east and southeast . Under current
conditions there are no monitoring wells east or
southeast of the old tank pit area . Additional
monitoring wells and the data they will provide are
essential in evaluating the extent of hydrocarbon
contamination on this site .
i
2 ) Further investigation will be necessary to determine
the lateral extent of contamination near both B - 12 ,
where oil and grease were encountered at depths of 20
and 40 feet , and B - 13 , with Toluene , ethyl -benzene ,
xylene , and TPH -G being found at 45 feet below grade
surface .
j 3 ) The " Report of Oil -Water Separation / Clarifier
Investigation submitted by EA Engineering on
September 25 , 1992 contains results which indicate the
j presence of total recoverable petroleum hydrocarbons in the
soil beneath the building . The lateral and vertical extent
of contamination will need to be determined in order to
evaluate the potential threat to ground water and possible
remedial alternatives .
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care ti mces
