M
Revised Work Plan for Biosoarge Feasibility Testing E C 0 R
ARCO Service Station 548
Stockton, California
The objective of the feasibility test is to promote biodegradation of the petroleum
hydrocarbons.
Task 1 - Preliminary Field Activities
Prior to conducting biosparge testing, a Site-specific Health and Safety Plan (HASP) will be
prepared for use by personnel during implementation of this work plan. At a minimum, the
HASP will define the proposed activities, describe physical and chemical hazards that may
be associated with the work, provide a map to the nearest emergency medical facility, and
include MSDS sheets for any hazardous chemicals that will be used or produced during the
work. A copy of the HASP will be available onsite at all times during field work.
Subcontractors performing field activities will be provided a copy of the HASP prior to
initiating work.
Task 2 — Collection of Baseline Parameters
Samples will be collected from all site monitoring wells monthly for three months in order to
collected baseline data. The samples will be analyzed for dissolved oxygen (DO), carbon
dioxide (CO2), oxidation reduction potential (ORP), nitrate, sulfate, chemical oxygen
demand (COD), ferrous iron, total iron, total dissolved solids (TDS), total organic carbon
(TOC), and heterotrophic plate count.
Task 3 — Biosparge Feasibility Testing
Following collection of the baseline data, the existing air sparge system and air will be
injected air into the existing AS wells. The existing AS system will be modified to maintain
flow rates between 2 and 6 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm). The site will be
monitored monthly for DO, CO2 , ORP, nitrate, sulfate, COD, ferrous iron , total iron, TDS ,
TOC, and heterotrophic plate count. The system will operate for approximately one year.
The site will be reevaluated following operation of the biosparge system.
REPORTING
A summary of the baseline data will be included in the quarterly report following collection
of all three months of data. Ongoing system operation information will be included in
quarterly reports. Upon completion of the system operation, SECOR will prepare a report
summarizing the biosparge system and evaluating the effectiveness of the technology at
remediating groundwater at the site. The report will be submitted to Atlantic Richfield
Company and the SJCEHD and will include tabulated field and analytical results, along with
figures documenting the results of the feasibility testing. The report will also include
conclusions and recommendations for further work.
SCHEDULE
SECOR and the Execution Contractor are prepared to initiate field activities upon approval
of this work plan by the SJCEHD.
