r
Ms Margaret Lagorio Project 20805-140 010
August 10, 1998
Page 3
will be installed and the remaining annulus will be filled with cement grout tremied from
the base of the annulus
SVE Well installation
One dual completion SVE well is proposed to supplement the existing SVE well network
This well will be installed in the former UST complex, the location is based upon review
of UST removal soil samples The borehole will be drilled using 10-inch diameter hollow
stem auger drilling equipment and soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals Two
to three soil samples will be preserved for Iaboratory analysis A HydroPunchOD
groundwater grab sample will be collected at the water table and analyzed for purposes of
assessing water table impacts
The dual completion SVE well will consist of a deeper well completed in native soils
beneath the former UST excavation and screened between approximately 20 and 35 feet
bgs and a shallow well completed within the backfill and screened between approximately
5 and 15 feet bgs The dual completion well will be constructed using 2-inch diameter
PVC casing and screen intervals will use 0 02 inch factory slot casing Number 3 sand will
be used as filter pack The annular space between the two screen intervals will be sealed
with bentonite chips
Task 3 No Purge Sampling of SVE Wells
The current groundwater levels are above the monitoring well screen intervals Therefore,
the SJCPHS/EHD requested installation of shallow monitoring wells screened across the
water table for delineation of the water table impacts ARCO proposes to collect no purge
groundwater samples from existing vapor extraction wells VW-1, through VW-4 The no
purge method is proposed to reduce the potential for plugging well screens with sediment
that may be pulled into the well during well purging These wells are screened starting at
depths of approximately 22 to 24 feet bgs and portions of the screen intervals are currently
above the water table Thus, samples from these wells will provide data regarding the
distribution and concentrations of dissolved hydrocarbons along the water table This data,
along with HydroPunch0 samples collected at the water table during well installation
activities will permit evaluation of the water table impacts
SACIA 1549ON DOC-961mtt 1
