June 26, 1992
ARCO Service Station No. 549, Stockton, California
FIELD INVESTIGATION
Site Safety Plan
i-
Field work performed at the site by RESNA on behalf of ARCO was conducted in
accordance with RESNA's Site Safety Plan No. 30004-45 (October 11, 1991).
•
Scope of Work
The subsurface environmental investigation was conducted at the site to evaluate the extent
of hydrocarbons that were previously identified in soil and to assess if ground water beneath
the site has been affected by hydrocarbons. The investigation was conducted in accordance
with RESNA's Work Plan No. 30004-4W (August 6, 1991).
Soil Borings and Sam lin
A geologist from RESNA was onsite October 14 through 22, 1991, to observe Westex
Drilling of West Sacramento, California, drill nine soil borings (B-b through B-14) and
construct four groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-4) and three vapor-
extraction wells (VW-1 through VW-3) in the borings. We chose the soil boring locations
to evaluate residual hydrocarbons in soil near the tank cavity, waste-oil tank, and dispenser
islands and dissolved hydrocarbons in ground water near the property boundaries. Westex
drilled the soil borings using a Mobile B-51 drilling rig. Drilling operations were performed
under the guidance of our field geologist who collected soil samples from the borings during
•
drilling. Our geologist typically collected samples at 5-foot intervals and lithologic changes.
A detailed description of our field methods are presented in Appendix A.
•
•
IM-4 4
f
