Concentrations of chemicals of concern, including gasoline-range
organics (GRO); benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX); methyl
tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), and tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA), have decreased significantly
in groundwater samples collected from the two most-impacted wells, monitoring well
MW-2R and vapor extraction well VW-1, since 25 May 2004, when the ozone sparge
system was first operational as an interim remediation method. Groundwater samples
collected from the remaining on- and off-site monitoring wells show a similar decrease in
concentrations of the two most-abundant contaminants, MTBE and TBA. Based on these
results, the EHD recommends suspending the ozone injection system for rebound testing.
If you have any questions concerning this letter, please contact Vicki McCartney at (209)
468-9852, or by email at vmccartney@sjcehd.com.
Sincerely,
Victoria L.
