Hammer Lane, Stockton, Case #2224
Vicki—I won't be able to complete a Tier.2 risk evaluation of analytical results from
overexcavation confirmation samples (collected January 26, 2000)that exceed Region 2 ESLs
before your meeting with Jim.Barton tomorrow. I will forward it to you as quickly as I can.
I did review the historical soil analytical data relative to the Commercial/Industrial and Utility
Worker values in Table 1 of the Low Threat Closure Policy (LTCP). Except for one soil sample
collected from well boring MW-3 at 10 feet bgs (September 6, 2000), all soil analytical data from
10 feet b s or less were collected in the original dispenser and product line samples(January 7,
2000), or during overexcavation of this area (January 26, 2000). Only one of these samples (D-
1@10' C) had a reported benzene concentration(8.47 mg/Kg) above the lowest limit set in Table
1 (8.2 mg/Kg). None of the reported ethylbenzene concentrations in these samples exceeded
the Lowest limit set in Table 1(89 mg/Kg).
These soil samples were collected over 13 years ago, and it is likely that residual hydrocarbon
concentrations now present at the site are lower than those reported in 2000. Relative to the
limits in Table 1, the threat associated with residual hydrocarbons in the shallow soil at the site
appears low.
Stephen J.
