Ms. Vicki McCartney Project No.: 880.040.1A.0110
May 23, 2003
Page 6
PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK
To further define the lateral and vertical extent of dissolved petroleum hydrocarbons and
MtBE in groundwater, Shaw will advance four CPT borings to a maximum depth of
90 feet bgs. The borings will be advanced by a California-licensed well driller using a
CPT rig that advances the boring equipment hydraulically without generating soil
cuttings. Shaw's Field and Laboratory Procedures are included in Appendix G.
Pre-Field Activities
Shaw will obtain the necessary soil boring permits from the.SJCEHD and encroachment
permit from the City of Stockton. The site-specific health and safety plan will be
updated. Underground Services Alert (USA) will be notified at least 48 hours prior to
initiating field work. A private subsurface utility locating service will be contracted to
clear the boring locations.
CPT Borings
Shaw proposes to advance four CPT borings (CPT-1 through.CPT-4) at the locations
shown on Figure 2. The maximum depth the borings will be advanced.will be 90 feet. Q,
A Shaw geologist will monitor the field activities. CPT measurements of cone bearing
sleeve friction and dynamic pore water pressure will be recorded at 5-cm intervals
during penetration to provide a nearly continuous hydrogeologic log. Pore water
pressure versus time measurements will be monitored to determine relative hydraulic
conductivity (pore dissipation tests). `
Each of the proposed locations will be cleared of underground obstructions by a utility
clearance subcontractor and by calling USA. Prior to positioning the direct-push
equipment for CPT activities; each CPT location will be hand-augured to a depth of
5 feet as an additional precaution against hitting subsurface obstructions.
Groundwater Sampling
Following the CPT push, a Hydropunch° or equivalent system will be used to collect
discrete groundwater samples from holes adjacent to the''CPT points (within five feet of
j
SHAW ENVIRONMENTAL,INC.
N:\sacDP\2003\Prj\880\8800401 A.3ac.doc
i
