APPENDIX G
FIELD AND LABORATORY PROCEDURES
GENERAL .
• General safety procedures will be reviewed with the field investigation staff and
subcontractors prior to commencement of field activities.
• Soil boring permits will be obtained from SJCDEH.
DRILLING PROCEDURES
• Four CPT borings will be advanced to a maximum depth of 90 feet bgs to delineate the
extent of the petroleum hydrocarbon impact to groundwater.
• Drilling and soil boring equipment will be washed prior to use in each boring.
• Soil descriptions, sample type and depth, and related drilling information for the CPT
borings will be recorded on a boring log under the supervision of a California State-
registered geologist.
GRAB GROUNDWATER SAMPLING PROCEDURES
• Field activities and equipment utilization will be recorded on field report forms.
• Adjacent to each CPT boring, a Hydropunch hTM or equivalent system will be used to
collect discrete groundwater samples.
• A 0.5-inch diameter bailer will be used for collection of each groundwater sample.
Polyethylene bailers will be discarded after each sample is collected. Stainless steel
bailers will be washed between wells using a bristle brush with a detergent rinse followed
by two clear water rinses, and a final deionized/distilled water rinse. The bailers will be
air dried or dried using paper towels.
• New nylon rope will be used to lower the bailers into the temporary wells. The nylon
rope will be discarded after each well.
• Groundwater samples will be placed into laboratory-supplied containers containing
preservatives.
• Groundwater will be discharged from the bailer via a bottom-emptying device.
Discharge to the containers will be conducted in a.manner to minimize bubbling and
agitation of the liquid. The containers will be filled to the top forming a meniscus to
minimize the headspace.
SHAW ENVIRONMENTAL,INC.
NAsacDP\2003\Prj\880\8800401 A.3ac.doc
G-1
