Borings will be drilled using hollow stem auger equipment.
• Augers and drilling equipment will be washed prior to drilling each boring.
• Soil descriptions, sample type and depth, and related drilling information will be
recorded on a boring log under the supervision of a State-registered geologist.
,SOIL SAMPLING PROCEDURES
• Borings will be sampled at 5 feet BGS and then in 5-foot increments until total
depth.
• The drilling and sampling equipment will be washed in a detergent rinse, two clear
water rinses, and a final deionized/distilled water rinse prior to drilling. The
equipment will dry air dried or dried using paper towels.
• Soil samples will be collected in six-inch long, stainless steel or brass sample tubes
inserted inside the samplers. The sample tubes are to be either pre-washed by the
supplier or washed using a bristle brush with a detergent rinse followed by two
clear water rinses and a final deionized/distilled water rinse. The sample tubes will
be dry before use.
• Samplers are to be driven using a 140-pound hammer dropping approximately 30
inches. The number of blows (blow count) required to advance the sampler 12
inches will be recorded on the boring log.
• Following retrieval of the sampler, the first (lowest) sample tube will be removed
from the sampler, the ends covered with aluminum foil or Teflon film, and capped
with PVC end caps.
N:\sacDP\2001\PRAP18\8800401 A.l ac.doc B-1
12/12/01
