Work Plan For Plume Evaluation
Quik Stop Market No. 132
3555 West Hammer Lane
Stockton,California
r • Overfill prevention devices will be checked for functionality.
n Quik Stop Market Inc.'s UST maintenance contractor will perform the above UST inspection
I activities, and an ATC representative will be on site to observe. The SJCPHS-EHD will be notified in
fl advance of the inspection activities so that they also may be present to observe, if they desire.
L
Task 2.Advance Borings and Perform Sampling and Analysis
ATC proposes to drill and sample three additional soil borings to better define the vertical and lateral
extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil and ground water at the site. The locations of the three
f 1 proposed borings are shown on Figure 2. The proposed soil borings will be located downgradient of
I the existing USTs and associated pump islands, and down gradient of the existing monitoring wells
with the highest concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons(MW-2, and MW-5).
An Application for Well/Pump Permit will be completed and filed with the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division. An Access Agreement will be sought from the owner of the
adjacent Taco Bell property for the installation of two of the borings. The proposed borings will be
completed to a maximum drilling depth of approximately 35 s. A drilling contractor with a
current C-57 license will be subcontracted to drill the boreholes. All project work will be
f performed under the direction of a California Registered Geologist.
The borehole locations will be marked and cleared for underground utilities prior to drilling. The
borings will be advanced with a direct push sampler, or equivalent. Continuous soil cores will be
obtained by advancing a direct push sampler with acrylic liners into the subsurface. The soil core
will be screened with a photo ionization detector (PID) for evidence of petroleum hydrocarbon
vapors. The field geologist will prepare a log of the subsurface conditions, and soil samples will
be classified in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). One or more soil
samples will be selected from each boring for laboratory analysis. Upon retrieval, a 6-inch section
n of the soil core liner will be cut at the selected sampling depth. The ends of the 6-inch tube
C containing the soil to be tested will be covered with aluminum foil, capped with plastic end-caps,
and taped shut. The tubes will then be labeled and placed:in an iced cooler for transportation to
the laboratory.
The borings will be advanced to a depth sufficient to allow water to collect in the boring. A
shallow groundwater sample from the local upper aquifer will be collected from each boring by
installing a temporary well in the boring, and bailing a groundwater sample. The temporary wells
will be constructed of 1-inch diameter schedule 40 PVC with approximately 10 feet of 0.01-inch
slotted casing for well screen. The temporary wells will be in place long enough for sufficient
water to accumulate for sampling, but less than 24 hours. The groundwater samples will be
labeled, stored on ice, and shipped along with the soil samples, to the laboratory under proper
IL! chain of custody for chemical analyses. After the groundwater samples have been collected, the
temporary wells will be removed from the boring. Additional depth discrete groundwater samples
Fy from each boring will be collected from the local lower aquifer using a HydropunchTm tool, or
] I:W Pr \QUIXSMPPQS 132(0003)\REP0RTS\2000\W0R"P N(X.W%d Tank IMIXR)dM -
5
