Quik Stop Market No. 132 August 28, 1990
Job No. 349132-31 page I
PHASE 2
WORK PLAN FOR
GROUNDWATER INVESTIC".'.TION
AT
QUIK STOP MARKET NO. 132
3555 W HAMMER LANE
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
I
Exceltech, Inc., proposes the drilling and sampling of five exploratory borings and
converting three of them to groundwater monitoring wells at Quik Stop Market No.
132 at 3555 W Hammer Lane, Stockton, California (Figure 1). If these wells do not
define the extent of the groundwater contamination, Exceltech is prepared to proceed
with installing additional wells to define the limits of contamination, In addition,
Exceltech will attempt to collect two samples from the soil beneath the in-place
underground fuel storage tanks. Quik Stop Markets has expressed to Excettech its
desire to begin work immediately upon issuance of the proper permits,
SITE HISTORY
Quik Stop Market No. 132 currently utilizes three underground fuel-storage tanks on-
site; two 10,000-gallon tanks contain regular unleaded and leaded gasoline and one
= 8,000-gallon tank contains suer unleaded gasoline. In 1987, Exceltech installed a
vadose monitoring system around the tanks at the site. This system detected
hydrocarbon contamination in July 1990. Gasoline contaminated fill was found in the
lined trenches containing the product lines. The contaminated backfill has been
removed from the trenches. Soil samples were collected and analyzed for gasoline
components. The results of the analysis revealed that hydrocarbons ltaYa penetrated the
s soil adjacent to the: east half of the product line trench which serves the Borth pump
island.
Exceltech drilled four borings and converted one of them to a groundwater monitoring
well on August 23, 1990. The results of soil analysis of the soil samples from three
borings showed little or no hydrocarbon contamination. One boring, near the
northwest portion of the, north Pump island,•.ontained 460 parts per million (ppm) total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHO). The groundwater from the monitoring
well on the east side of the north pump island contained 470 parts per billion (ppb)
TPHG and 21 ppb benzene as well as detectable levels of toluene, ethyl benzene, and
_total xylenes,._.._
' 25/HD31_13DX3 Si:80 06, 62 `)nv
yi _
