Quik Stop Markets has expressed to Exceltech its
desire to begin work immediately upon issuance of the proper permits.
SITE HISTORTaC
Quik Stop Market No. 132 currently utilizes three underground &el-storage tanks on-
site: two 10,000-gallon tanks contain regular unleaded and leaded gasoline and one
8,000-gallon tank contains super unleaded gasoline. In 1987, E)Xeltech installed a
vadose monitoring system around the tanks at the sfte. Teats systom detected
hydrocarbon contamination in July 1990. Gasoline contaminated fill was found in the
J - lined trenches containing the product fines. The contaminated backfill has been
removed from the trenches. Soil samples were collected and analyzed for gasoline
components. The results of the analysis revealed that hydrocarbons have penetrated the
soil adjacent to the east hall' of the product line trench which serves the north pump
5:
island. ;
PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK
Exceltech proposes to drill and sample three exploratory soil borings, one on the north
and two on the south side of the affected product line trench (Figure 2). Each boring
will progress the shallower of the following options•. (a) first encountered groundwater;
(b) 20 feet below the lowermost sample which is nondetected by the portable organic
vapor motor (if the soil is predominantly impermeable); or (c) 40 feet below the
lowermost sample which is nondetected by the portable organic vapor meter(if the soil
Is predominantly permeable). In addition to the borings, Exceltech will also install one
groundwater monitoring well in a third boring which will be located to the east of the
"< product line trench,.This well will be constructed so that the screened interval extends
above the group',;rater table. This proposed exploration program will provide
information which'will help Exceltech assess the conditions of the soil and groundwatar
beneath the site,
