The uugor3 were nteamed cleanwd before uve in each
boring/borehole. The drill cuttings were placed in 55 gallon DOT
drums and have been stored within a secured fence onsite. Each
drum in labeled with information identifying the soils and the
well number from which the cuttings Were produced.
2.3 SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS OF SOILS
t During drilling, the soils were sampled at 5 foot intervals,
beginn.ng at 5 feet below the ground surface, with a Modifled
California split spoon sampler. The split spoon sampler was lined
with three brass tubes, each 2 inches in diameter and 6 inches in
lenych. Before each sampling interval, the sampler and the liners
were scrubbed in a trisodium phnaphaLe; detergent and rinsed with
tap water and distilled water. immediately after the sampler and
i ,
the contained brass liners were retrieved, the lowermost tube was
{ removed and seated with aluminum foil, plastic end caps, and
electrical tape, she soil filled brass liner was then labeled and
F' placed on ice in a cooler for storage and transport. The soil
from the other two liners was screened for the
presence of
petroleum hydrocarbons with a Foxboro Century 128 organic vapor
{ analyzer (FID) and described and classified according to the
9
Oniiizd Soil Classification System. The OVA readings are posted
4 on a column of the drill logs in Appendix A.
{ Five soil samples from each.borehole at depths of 16, 21, 26, 31,
f and 36 feet below ground surface were selected for analysis and
shipped under chain-of-custody t,, Pace Laboratories (DHS Hazardous
4 Waste Analysis certificate number 148) . The soils Samples were
analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons by DHS modified EPA
method 8015 and for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes by
EPA Method 8020.
I TIP
a
a
d
 a
g
f
