M� R AM 1MA Y g � AUM4IM I= M -,f ,tug I 111TRODUCTION Former Chevron Sarvien Station (SS) 9-1910 is located on the northwest corner of the intersection Of Cant [larding Way and El Dorado Street in Stockton, California (Figaro I ). Chevron SS 9-191a activoly dispensed gasoline products and serviced auto- mobiles at thio niter b0tv*Qn 1953 and 1980. The original station van remodaled, and fiberglass storage tanks wore Installed, in 1904. The station was deactivated and demolished in early 19881 the underground storage tanks were excavated and removed from the sit* on 24 February. soil camplec collected from the tank oxca- vation pit and the Gtockpiled excavated coil wore analyzed and contained up to 490 ppm lou-boiling-point hydrocarbons. The IS- foot-deep tank excavation pit was backfilled with clean pea gravel. A soil vapor contaminant assessment (svch) was conducted on 17 November 1987. The SVCA conAiGted of driving a 5/8-inch diameter steel probe into the soil to depths of up to 15 feet around the site, concentrated In the tank and pump island areas. The SVCA indicated significant concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons In the soil vapor, with the apparent highest concentrations in the underground storage tank area. The relatively high concentra- tions of petroleum hydrocarbons soil vapor indicated a potential for groundwater contamination at the site. The SVCA data veru used to determine the best locations for placement of groundwater monitoring 'wells. Six groundwater monitoring veils wore installed on the site during the week of 7 November 1988. soil samples collected from two of the wall boreholes during drilling were analyzed; they contained concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TP10 up to 3,300 mg/kg.
