I
have reviewed the workplan, and find it to be well-written and through. The workplan is
approved with the following comments:
."Clic workplan states that groundwater from monitoring well KP-1 will be considered
representative of background quality. however, staff will not consider KP-1 to represent
background condition, if it is downgradient of a source area (a disposal trench).
. Before collecting additional water samples from KP-1 to characterize ambient background
quality, rd suggest that you take water elevation measurements to determine if KP-1 is really
upgradient. If it turns out that KP-2 or KP-3 is upgradient, you'd want to take the additional
samples from the appropriate well.
. As we discussed, a bailer should be used to collect the volatile organics samples (EPA 8010
and 8020), while a low-flow pump can be used for the rest of the samples.
0 We also discussed the reasons for field filtering the water samples, and I'm not sure if this
step is really necessary. You may wish to collect duplicate nitrate or ammonia samples, and
field filter only one of them This would show if there is any analytical difference, and if the
cost of field filtering is justified in the future.
Please keep me informed as to your schedule for field work, so that I meet you onsite to
determine the location of monitoring well KP-1.
