Color Spot, Inc. SGD5
March 19, 1991 (M88168F)
soil or to reach ground water. When ground water is shallow enough to be reached
using available equipment (i.e. , less than 50 feet) , it may be appropriate to
drill the boreholes so they are suitable for well installations." Because a
"depth of contaminated soil" was not encountered in any of the four drill holes,
coupled with the fact that ground water exists at the site at well beyond a depth
of 50 feet, it was (and is) our conclusion that ground water assessment is not
necessary at this site.
Laboratory analytical results of the soil samples collected indicated
that contamination concentrations in excess of DWS do not exist within the
vicinity of the former UST. Benzene and toluene concentrations were not
detected.
Additionally, SGD was able to collect a ground water sample from
within the hollow stem auger at one of the drill holes at a depth of approxi-
mately 92 feet below the ground surface. This ground water sample was collected
from inside the hollow stem auger because the drill rig had reached its
mechanical limit and the construction of a proper ground water monitoring well
was not possible. Laboratory analytical results indicated that the ground water
sample did not contain detectable concentrations of hydrocarbon contamination.
. F
