' coarse grained brown sand with thin lenses of small gravel. A
moderate hydrocarbon odor was observed at approximately 25 feet.
The hydrocarbon odors were very strong at 30 feet and strong at 35
feet. Water was first observed at 33 feet. From 33 feet to
approximately 40 feet, the well bottom, the soil was dark grey sand
with clay lenses grading to moist dark grey clay with a slight
hydrocarbon odor. The boring was terminated at 40 feet to avoid
violating the clay layer.
Twenty feet of 0. 02 inch screened 2-inch-diameter, Schedule 40 PVC
' casing was placed at the bottom of well MW-2 . The remainder of the
well was constructed using regular 2-inch-diameter, Schedule 40 PVC
casing. Twenty two feet of #3 Lonestar Sand was used for the
' filter pack with a two foot Bentonite seal above the sand. The
remaining portion of the well was filled with cement grout and a
traffic rated moister resistant manhole placed slightly above grade
to avoid surface water contamination. A locking cap with lock was
placed in the casing to avoid inadvertent surface contamination to
groundwater.
For Boring MW-3 , the first foot was sand and gravel fill with
approximately 4 inches of asphalt, then moist brown clayey silt to
approximately 25 feet with some caliche at approximately 20 feet.
' From approximately 25 to 33 feet moist graded light brown sand to
fine grained brown sand with very slight hydrocarbon odors
observed. From approximately 33 to 41 feet dark grey clay moist
and plastic with some silty clay and sand at the bottom of the
well. Very slight odors with some organic odors were observed at
the lower end of this boring. The boring was terminated at 41
feet.
rTwenty feet of 0. 02 inch screened 2-inch-diameter, Schedule 40 PVC
casing was placed at the bottom of well MW-3 . From approximately 7 to 12
' feet light brown silty clay and clayey sand to fine grained brown
sand. At approximately 12 feet to 18 feet, moist brown clayey silt
with caliche veins was encountered. The next several feet changed
' from moist fine to light brown sandy silt with clay being moist at
approximately 25 feet no hydrocarbon odor was observed to this
6
