2 3 1 Shallow Monitoring Well Construction <br /> ' MDE installed the shallow monitoring well to a total depth of 50 feet bgs The shallow well was <br /> constructed with 20 feet of two-inch diameter, Schedule 40, flush-threaded and machine-slotted <br /> ' (0 020-inch) polyvinyl chloride (PVC) well screen, spanning from approximately 30 to 50 feet bgs <br /> Blank PVC casing was threaded into the top of the well screen and extended to the surface <br /> A filter pack of#2112 graded and washed sand was placed in the annular space between the well <br /> and the wall of the borehole, until the sand pack reached approximately two feet above the top of <br /> ' the screened interval (i e , 28 feet bgs) Overlying the sand pack, two feet of bentonite chips were <br /> placed within the annular space and hydrated Over the hydrated bentonite, a surface seal of neat <br /> cement grout was installed with a tremae pipe The top of the well was secured with a water-tight <br /> ' locking cap and a flush-mount, traffic-rated utility box <br /> ' 2 3 2 Deep Monitoring Well Construction <br /> MDE installed the deep monitoring well to a total depth of 75 feet bgs Based on results from the <br /> ' groundwater samples collected at CPT-2, a conductor casing was not used to seal off the overlying <br /> groundwater during drilling <br /> To coincide with the construction of MW-4 and MW-5, The deep well was constructed with 20 feet <br /> of two-inch diameter, Schedule 40, flush-threaded and machine-slotted (0 020-inch) PVC well <br /> ' screen, spanning from approximately 55 to 75 feet bgs Blank PVC casing was threaded into the <br /> top of the well screen and extended to the surface <br /> A filter pack of#2112 graded and washed sand was placed through the hollow-stern augers as they <br /> were slowly retrieved and until the sand pack reached approximately two feet above the top of the <br /> ' screened interval (E e, 53 feet bgs) Overlying the sand pack, two feet of bentonite chips were <br /> placed within the annular space between the borehole and the well casing Over the hydrated <br /> bentonite, a surface seal of neat cement grout was installed with a tremae pipe The top of the well <br /> was also be secured with a water-tight locking cap and a flush-mount, traffic-rated utility box <br /> • 9 <br />
