Overall Site Hazard Summary: LOW <br /> 7.0 SITE CONTROLS <br /> An exclusion area will be established using caution tape or another suitable physical <br /> barrier if it is deemed necessary to restrict access while performing field activities. <br /> Inside the exclusion area,.a contamination reduction area (CRA) will be established <br /> through which all workers must enter and exit. Personnel leaving the exclusion area <br /> will undergo the decontamination procedures outlined in item 13 of Appendix'B while <br /> in the CRA. The CRA also will have a caution tape barrier around it. Lined'garbage <br /> cans, buckets, wash basins, nonphosphate soap solutions, rinse water and scrub <br /> brushes will be provided in the CRA. Decontamination fluids generated during field <br /> work will be drummed in DOT approved drums and transported to an appropriate <br /> disposal facility. <br /> Heavy equipment such as backhoes, loaders and bulldozers must be decontaminated <br /> before leaving the site. Wash down areas for trucks and heavy equipmeni'will be <br /> designed and set up as required. <br /> 7.1 General Heavy Equipment Operation Safety Guidelines <br /> Hazards/Controls <br /> (1) The use of heavy equipment produces noise levels in excess of <br /> regulatory limits. During any activities involving the. use of <br /> heavy equipment, ear plugs or ear muffs providing at least 25 <br /> NRR of protection must be worn. <br /> (2) Since verbal communication is impossible, <br /> standardized/recognized hand signals must be used and should <br /> be reviewed by all personnel prior to job startup. <br /> (3) It is the responsibility of all personnel to keep well back from <br /> operating equipment, since the equipment operator may have <br /> limited visibility. <br /> (4) Heat stress is a hazard, especially where PPE is required.
