Joe's Truck Stop k
Page 3
October 6, 1999
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the investigation is to establish the severity, and extent if possible of a'known y
groundwater impact at the subject property. It is also the objective of this investigation to
determine the direction of groundwater gradient at the subject property.
SCOPE OF WORK
Site Safety and Health Plan
f
1' Prior to subsurface testing, as required by law, a Site Safety and Health plan (Attached)
will be prepared in order to insure that all workers and sub-contractors are aware of the
risks and safety procedures associated with this Phase II Subsurface Site Assessment.
Underground Service Alert
As required by law, Underground Service Alert (USA) will be contacted to check the
proposed probe locations for conflict with public utilities, such as gas or electrical
lines.
r
Well Construction
g Due to the depth to groundwater is at approximately nine feet bgs, the boringswill be 1
terminated at 20 feet bgs. ,The upper five feet will consist of schedule 40 PVC solid
casing. The lower 15 feet will consist of schedule 40 PVC slotted casing with (010 size
` slot). 216 sand will be used around the slotted casing, a hydrated bentonite seal will
be placed above the sand column, and will be followed by neat cement. Wells will
be flush mounted with locking caps.
Well Development
Wells will be developed by a licenced C-57 driller using a smeal rig. A surging pump
will be used to purge the well and extract any fine grained material left in the
1 monitoring well which might inhibit well development. This will be performed the
day following the well installation.
I
Groundwater Sampling
i
Before initiating sampling activities, measurements of the depth to water and depth to
bottom of the well casing will be made to determine the well volume for all wells. A
minimum of three well volumes will be purged from each well before collecting
groundwater samples.
I
j
