4 3 3 Soil and Groundwater Sampling and Anal sis
During the drilling of all of the remedial feasibility test wells, undisturbed soil samples will be
collected at five-foot intervals using a modified California split-spoon sampler, lined with two-inch
diameter by six-inch long brass or stainless steel sample sleeves A field geologist will log each of
the undisturbed sod samples for hydrogeologic and lithologic characteristics according to the
' Unified Soil Classification System, and screen each sample for any organic vapors using a PID
' To further evaluate the extent of impacted soil directly beneath and to the west of the former UST
source area, five soil samples from each boring will be submitted for laboratory analysis These
soil samples will include the ones collected from the groundwater table interface and total depths
' of both borings, and three samples from the vadose (i e , unsaturated) soil Additional soil
samples may be submitted for analysis, if necessary to characterize subsurface conditions Field
' observations and sample selection will be reviewed with the EHD inspector, prior to sample
submittal to the lab
' All soil samples will be sealed with Teflon® film and plastic end caps, labeled, packaged in an iced
cooler and transported with chain-of-custody documentation to a state of California-certified
hazardous waste testing laboratory The lab will analyze each of the soil samples for TPH-as-
gasoline, BTEX, MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, TAME, TBA and 1,2-DCA by EPA Method 8020/8015M
and/or 8260B
To establish baseline groundwater conditions prior to remedial feasibility testing, and to evaluate
' potential long-term bio-enhancement during active remediation, groundwater samples will be
collected for microbial analyses Groundwater-grab samples will be collected for analysis from
MW-1, MW-2, the monitoring well proposed to the west of the former UST, and the deep well in
' the proposed nested soil vapor extraction well
15
