1 i
i
4 4 2 Air SparprnA Test
To evaluate airs armg as a groundwater remediation alternative, a 4-hour airs arm test will
p 9 P g g
be conducted on the air sparge well (AS-1) The air sparge test will be used to evaluate
• The air injection pressure and flow rate for engineering design requirements,
' Radius of influence,
• Any increase in dissolved oxygen readings in the test well and observation wells,
•
Off-gassing/volatilization of petroleum hydrocarbons from the vadoselsaturated zones,
' Evidence of biodegradation
' Prior to starting the AS test, groundwater table elevation and dissolved oxygen in groundwater will
be monitored with field instruments m MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, the proposed well to the west of the
former UST#3, and SVE-1C In addition, observation well pressure, and soil gas parameters
' (oxygen, carbon dioxide, methane, and organic vapors) will be monitored with field instruments in
MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, the proposed well to the west of the former UST#3, SVE-1AIBIC, and SVE-
' 2B
The AS test equipment will include an oil-less air compressor, air-hoses, flow gauges and multiple
JP
pressure gauges connected to air-tight well caps During the tests, air from the compressor will
be injected into the air sparge test well, and pressure readings will be collected from the test well
and the observation wells (MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, the proposed well to the west of the former UST
#3, SVE-1AIBIC, and SVE-213)
The test well and observation wells will be monitored with field instruments every 30 minutes
' during the 4-hour AS test The monitoring parameters will include the water table elevation, air
injection pressure, operating pressure, injected air-flow rate, observation well pressure, dissolved
oxygen in groundwater, and the soil gas parameters (oxygen, carbon dioxide, and organic
vapors) Thirty minutes after the completion of the 4-hour test, the final monitoring parameters will
be measured
45 Waste Storage and Disposal
All waste soil cuttings generated during drilling will be contained in 55-gallon drums, and stored
temporarily on-site, pending waste profiling and proper disposition Equipment rinsate water and
purged groundwater will be contained in separate 55-gallon drums for temporary on-site storage,
pending proper disposition Waste activated carbon will also be stored temporarily on-site, until
this waste can be profiled and transported off-site for disposal or regeneration
17
1
1
