Underground Storage Tank and Product Line Replacement Report-Tosco 76 Branded Facility No. 11195
April 23, 1999
Groundwater grab sample CW was collected from groundwater within the indentation left in the
bottom of the excavation after the removal of the center UST. Each sample was analyzed for
TPHg, BTEX, MtBE, six oxygenate compounds, and total lead. Sample SW contained 8,400
parts per bilion (ppb) of TPHg, 310 ppb of benzene, 100,000 ppb of MtBE (EPA Method 8260),
460 ppb of TAME, and was reported as not detected for ethanol, TBA, DIPS, EtBE, and total
lead. Sample CW contained 60,000 ppb of TPHg, 1,500 ppb of benzene, 130,000 ppb of MtBE
(EPA Method 8260), 870 ppb of TAME, and was reported as not detected for ethanol, TBA,
DIPE, EtBE, and total lead.
New Gasoline UST Excavation Sampling
Upon excavation of the new gasoline UST pit, two soil samples (X-1-16.5, and X-2-15.5) were
collected from the bottom of the excavation at depths of approximately 16.5 and 15.5 feet bgs,
respectively (Figure 3). The samples were analyzed for MtBE, six oxygenate compounds, and
total lead. Sample X-1-16.5 contained 1.9 ppm of MtBE by EPA Method $260, and was
reported as not detected for ethanol, TBA, DIPE, EtBE, TAME, and total lead. Sample X-2-
15.5 contained 5.3 ppm of MtBE by EPA Method 8260, 3.5 ppm of total lead, and was reported
as not detected for ethanol, TBA, DIPE, EtBE, and TAME. The laboratory inadvertently failed
to analyze these samples for TPHg and BTEX.
Dispenser/Product Line Sampling
On December 30, 1998, ten soil samples (TT-1-3.5 through TT-10-3.5) were collected from
native soil immediately beneath the four dispenser locations and associated product piping at
depths ranging from 3 to 4 feet bgs (Figure 3). The soil samples were analyzed for TPHg,
TPHd, BTEX, MtBE, six oxygenate compounds, and total lead. TPHg, bnezene, or MtBE by
EPA Method 8260 were not detected in these samples.
Former Product Line Sampling
Three soil samples (TL-1-2.5, TL-2-3, TL-3-4) were collected from native soil immediately
beneath the former product line locations at depths ranging from 2.5 to 4 feet bgs on December
31, 1998 (Figure 4). The soil samples were analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, MtBE, six oxygenate
compounds, and total lead. Sample TL-1-2.5 contained 50 ppm of unidentified hydrocarbons
greater than C9 in the range of TPHg, 14 ppm of total lead, and was reported as not detected for
all other analytes. Samples TL-2-3 and TL-3-4 were reported as not detected for all analytes
except for 0.17 ppm of MtBE (EPA Method 8020) and 1.6 ppm of total lead in TL-2-3 and 64.0
ppm of ethanol and 2.4 ppm of total lead in TL-3-4.
140I93.03
:_ 3
