Underground Storage Tank and Product Line Replacement Report-Tosco 76 Branded Facility No. 11195
Aril 23 1999
Approximately 150 cubic yards of native soil were excavated from shallow depths of the new
gasoline UST complex and stockpiled on-site. Samples SP-10 through SP-15 were collected
from the stockpile and analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, MtBE, six oxygenate compounds, and total
lead. Chemical analytical results for the samples ranged from not detected to 1.3 ppm of
unidentified hydrocarbons greater than C8 in the range of TPHg, not detected to 0.013 ppm of
xylenes, not detected to 2.3 ppm of MtBE, not detected to 3.3 ppm of total lead, and not
detected for all other analytes. This soil remained on site pending the completion of the new
gasoline UST complex excavation.
Approximately 450 cubic yards of native soil were excavated from the deeper areas and below
the water table in the new gasoline UST complex and stockpiled on-site. This wet soil was
blended with the drier soil represented by samples SP-10 through SP-15 facilitate loading and
transportation. The combined soil stockpile was then transported to Forward Landfill's stockpile .
unit for temporary storage. Composite samples ST-16 (comp) through ST-20 (comp) were then
collected from the stockpile and analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, MtBE, and total lead. Chemical
analytical results from these samples ranged from 3.6 to 130 ppm of gasoline and unidentified
hydrocarbons with a carbon chain of C6 to C12 in the range of TPHg, not detected to 0.27 ppm
of benzene, not detected to 0.86 ppm of MtBE, and 49 to 10 ppm of total lead. Upon receipt of
the analytical data and acceptance, the soil was transported to Forward Landfill's disposal area.
.,;--.. Approximately 100 cubic yards of soil was generated during trenching, canopy installation, and
grading activities and stockpiled on-site. Composite sample ST-21 (comp) was collected and
analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, MtBE, and total Iead. The samples was reported as not detected for
all analytes. Upon receipt of the analytical data, the soil was disposed of by Walton as
construction debris.
SOIL DISPOSAL
A total of 1,017.19,tons of stockpiled soil represented by samples SP-6A-D, SP-7A-D, SP-10
through SP-15, and ST-16 (comp) through ST-20 (comp) was transported from the site by
Manley and Sons Trucking, Inc. of Sacramento,' California, to the Forward Inc. Landfill in
Manteca, California, for disposal during January and February 1999. The Forward disposal
confirmation letter is attached.
GROUNDWATER REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL
On December 17, 1998, one composite groundwater sample (Water-Ref) was collected from two
groundwater monitoring wells (MW-3 and MW-4) adjacent to the new and former UST
excavations. This sample was collected to satisfy acceptance requirements for water treatment at
the Tosco Refinery in Rodeo, California for water to be pumped from the excavations during
UST installation activities. The sample was analyzed for static _hazardous abbreviated screen
bioassay (fish bioassay), Organochlorine Pesticides and PCBs (OP&PCBs), Volatile Orgainc
I
140193.03
5
