Nestle USA, Inc., Ripon, California March 31, 2011
2010 Annual Report
Pursuant to MRP No. R5-2005-0829 and MRP No. R5-2010-0810 requirements, ECM sampled
the wells detailed in the following sections.
3.1.1 NESTLE MONITORING WELLS
Nestle has installed 129 vapor extraction, groundwater monitoring, and extraction wells in the
Ripon Study Area since 1986. Table 1 provides well construction information for each well,
including the date the well was drilled, well screen intervals, and the current groundwater
sampling frequency.
3.1.2 PRIVATE WELLS
Pursuant to current MRP requirements, ECM sampled the following 28 private wells:
• Four school wells in Ripon; three are used exclusively for landscaping irrigation and one
is used for both landscaping irrigation and drinking water;
• One private drinking water well on Parallel Avenue d;
• One drinking water well on Manley Avenue;
• One Caltrans well used for landscape irrigation;
• One private drinking water well on Robert Avenue;
• Eleven private drinking water wells south of the Stanislaus River;
• One irrigation well south of the Stanislaus River;
• Two production wells on the former Neenah Paper Company property (Diamond Pet
Food); and
• Six test holes on the former Neenah Paper Company property (Diamond Pet Food).
3.1.3 PRIVATE WELL HEAD TREATMENT
ECM samples three domestic wells with GAC wellhead treatment systems. The wells are
located at 5725 Hall Road, 7501 Kiernan Avenue, and 802 Vera Avenue.
3.1.4 CITY OF RIPON PRODUCTION WELL NETWORK
The MRP includes 10 City of Ripon production wells and two monitoring wells (Table 1). ECM
sampled all of the wells except MW-12, as this well was not operational in 2010.
3.1.5 NESTLE GROUNDWATER EXTRACTION SYSTEM NETWORK
Three groundwater extraction wells are currently used for remediation at the Site. These wells
are connected to the Industrial Avenue extraction and treatment system. Two groundwater
extraction wells used for remediation for the Stockton Avenue extraction and treatment system
were shutdown in October 2010 with approval from the RWQCB.
3.1.6 WELL INSPECTION AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONS
ECM inspects the conditions of the casing, the box, the cap, the lock, and the sampling tether of
each monitoring well during the quarterly water level monitoring event. Table 7 lists the
d The 2010 MRP lists three wells on Parallel Avenue; however, the well at 501 Parallel has been properly closed
and the house is connected to the City of Ripon water supply. The well at 415 Parallel Avenue was not sampled
in 2010 because the house has been condemned by the City of Ripon. ECM field personnel visually confirmed
that the house remained vacant during each quarter of 2010.
9
