E
LEVINE•FRICKE
The boring samples were submitted to Quanteq Laboratories of
Pleasant Hill, California, a state-certified laboratory, for
analysis by EPA Method 8240 for acetone. The surface soil
samples were submitted to Asbestos TEM Laboratory of Berkeley,
California, for Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) analysis.
Acetone was not identified above method detection limits in
the soil boring samples. Asbestos fibers were not identified
above method detection limits in the two surface soil samples.
Laboratory reports and chain-of-custody forms are included in
Attachment 2.
UST REMOVAL AND PREVIOUS SOIL INVESTIGATION
An 8, 000-gallon-capacity UST used to store waste acetone was
removed by a contractor on December 20, 1989 (Figure 2) . The
bottom of the UST excavation was at approximately 13 feet bgs.
The UST removal was monitored by an inspector from the SJCEHD.
One soil sample was reportedly collected by a previous
consultant from each of four borings, drilled to approximately
15 feet bgs after the UST excavation was backfilled. Two of
the borings were drilled outside the UST excavation (SB-3 and
SB-4) and two were drilled in the backfilled excavation (SB-1
and SB-2) . The borings were drilled using a hollow-stem
auger. Samples were collected in 2x6-inch brass tubes using a
split-spoon sampler.
The four soil samples (SB-1. 15, SB-2 . 16, SB-3. 15, and SB-4. 16)
were submitted to Superior Analytical Laboratory, Inc. , of San
Francisco, California, for analysis by EPA Method SW-816
Method 8240 for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) , including
acetone. No VOCs were reported above detection limits in any
of the four samples. Laboratory reports are included in
Attachment 3 .
ATTACHMENTS
Attachments to this report are as follows:
• Figure 1: Site Location Map
e Figure 2: Site Map with Soil Sampling Locations and
Former Location of Waste-Acetone Underground
Storage Tank
• Attachment 1: Soil Boring Permit
• Attachment 2 : Laboratory Certificates (Levxne•Fricke
Sampling)
• Attachment 3 : Laboratory Certificates (Previous Sampling)
2655\2655-SI RPT wlk 2
